LG just kicked out the Z1 prototype as the production-quality, dual-LCD XNOTE R200. That 2.5-inch touch-sensitive, Windows SideShow LCD makes for quick access to email, photos, music, “mini-games” and plenty of Vista gadgets without having to boot the OS or even flip open the lappie.

The LCD XNOTE R200 model has a 2.5-inch color LCD display and touch sensor button on the outside of the laptop. The external LCD is a Windows Vista SideShow enabled LCD to quick access the key information you need such as access e-mails or notes, photos, play music, run “mini-games” and other gadgets that reside on Vista’s desktop without having to boot the notebook. This SideShow enabled display is located right on the cover and beside it are the navigation controls for your easy access.

Using the outer display and the feather touch buttons next to it, you can play music, check emails, check system status, view photo slideshows, and play games like Solitaire without powering on the notebook. Specs include an Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 processor (2 GHz), 1 GB RAM and 160 GB hard drive. It also has several connectivity options that include Bluetooth, WLAN, FireWire, and S-Video. It didn’t disappoint on the performance front. Thanks to the Core 2 Duo processor and ATi 2400 graphics, the R200 scored 2522 in PC Mark 05 and 1087 in 3D mark 06. The LCD XNOTE R200 is the kind of laptop that you’ll either fall in love with or hate at first sight. This is simply due to the polished-mirrored finish that LG has adopted. It consists of a shiny piano black finish for the lid, diffused white for the keyboard area, and a dark matte for the area around the LCD panel. While I thought it looked a bit tacky, especially the lid area, most people were quite impressed and found it sharp and elegant.

The SideShow enabled screen operates when Vista is shut down to save battery life being able to playback MP3 up to 100 hours.
