Reviews - Dell XPS M1530 Laptop Computer
Dell made a serious effort in 2007 to listen to customer feedback criticizing Dell’s older, thick and heavy laptops. The result was the amazingly thin and light XPS M1330, one of the sexiest looking notebooks of 2007. The new Dell XPS M1530 is an impressive 15.4″ screen notebook designed similar to (just larger than) the very successful 13-inch XPS M1330.
Processor options remain largely the same, with our sample coming with the Core 2 Duo T7250, which is clocked at 2.0GHz with an 800MHz front side bus and has 2MB L2 Cache on-board. This is a very capable option for most needs, while those with more demanding requirements can choose between a 2.2GHz T7500 and the 2.4GHz T7700.
For system memory you get 2GBs (2×1GB) worth of 667MHz DDR2 RAM as standard, with an option for 4GB (2×2GB) also available.
Another area that’s notably improved is the graphics options, with a 256MB nVidia 8600M GT coming as standard. It still won’t rip through all the latest games, but you should be able to play a good selection of titles at 1,280 x 800 with some details turned down.
While the battery life isn’t as efficient as on the M1330, we still managed to get a little over 3 hours from the machine. This was rather surprising, as the 15.4-inch screen has a double-strength backlit, which makes it great for movies as well as playing games but can be a drain on battery life.
The XPS M1530 comes in a choice of two colors: Tuxedo black or Alpine white. However, the color scheme extends only to the front plastic bezel, with both models sporting silver borders.

The good: Thin, sexy design; strong performance; includes media remote control and HDMI output.
The bad: Not as revolutionary as the previous 13-inch version; fewer configuration options than Dell’s Inspiron line.
The bottom line: Dell’s turn toward a “design-first” philosophy continues to pay off with the XPS M1530, easily the best-looking 15-inch laptop in recent memory.
